Great Place To Work

More than a number

Employees are indispensable to our success and US Foods strives to be the best place to work in the foodservice distribution industry:

  • Respect and dignity: We provide annual training in ethics and fair treatment to all employees to ensure that we treat all people with respect and dignity.
  • USF Cares: Each year, our employees, like many Americans, face unexpected personal crises, like natural disasters, that push family resources to the limit. USF CARES steps in to provide critical grants to help employees and their families get their lives back on track and moving forward. Since the program began in 2005, USF CARES has provided more than $600,000 to help US Foods employees when their needs are great.
  • Workplace safety: We work hard every day and are dedicated to workplace safety. All employees receive top-notch safety training and the company is committed to continuous safety improvement.  OSHA reportable injury rates have declined steadily during the past five years and our DOT accident rate is significantly lower than the industry average.
  • Investing in the future: Since our acquisition by KKR and CD&R in 2007, US Foods has been implementing a $160 million strategic capital investment program to consolidate operations in new, state-of-the art distribution centers, and to implement advanced technologies and equipment to help reduce the environmental impact of its 6,000-truck fleet and its more than 60 facilities

Working together

US Foods strives every day to be a great company and a great employer.

  • We believe that positive relationships between management and employees help make US Foods a great place to work.
  • Third-party representation can create an environment of antagonism and distrust between employees and their managers. This antagonism can negatively affect our culture of respect and trust and can create barriers to our success.
  • While we always respect our employees’ rights to choose whether or not to accept third-party representation, we believe that by creating a work environment in which employees and managers work together, there should be no need for intervention by outside organizations.

Respecting and protecting our legal rights

We recognize the rights of our employees who have chosen union representation. US Foods has a strong record of maintaining professional working relationships with the local unions that represent less than 1/5th of our employees. With these unions, the company has a history of negotiating labor agreements with very few strikes or disruptions. Since 2007, US Foods has successfully renegotiated more than 50 union contracts.

  • Supervisors are trained to respect and comply with the National Labor Relations Act.
  • We recognize and respect the free speech rights of all parties as protected by the National Labor Relations Act.
  • We work to ensure that our employees have all the facts about union representation and union membership — that they know what their rights — as well as the company’s rights — are under the National Labor Relations Act.
  • We support and recognize the National Labor Relations Act secret-ballot union election process.
