US Foods lighting retrofit reduces energy use by 8%

Food distributors US Foods says it will save more than 2 million kWh in 2011 by retrofitting lighting throughout the company. Since 2007, lighting retrofits have reduced overall energy use by eight percent, or 34 million kWh, the company said.

Breakfast stuffs KCSL’s stocking with $20,000

US Foods hosts new plant opening today

US Foods officially opened its new Albuquerque distribution center on December 1 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The 135,000-square-foot facility will enable the company, formerly called U.S. Foodservice Inc., to provide 40 percent more products to its more than 1,200 customers throughout New Mexico and El Paso. The center has 150 employees and is expected to add 20 percent more jobs over the next five years.

The solar array is the foodservice distributor’s third installation, including a panel in San Francisco and La Mirada CA, and one of the largest rooftop installations in Phoenix. It is expected to provide 15% of the division’s power needs annually
